Developer: VOODOO

Review

I am a big fan of hyper-casual Voodoo games; I think I have played them all over the years. Fun, highly entertaining, and frantically paced. I still have Helix Jump and City Takeover on my phone whenever I am bored or need something to keep me busy while waiting. These do not get old and keep giving me the thrills like the first time I played them.

Today, however, I want to talk about another decent title by the Voodoo developer – a cute little racing adventure game called Draw Climber. I am surprised and somewhat upset about how little Draw Climber is known outside Voodoo’s loyal fan community, and I fully intend to correct that injustice.

What Is Draw Climber?

For starters, Draw Climber is an exciting racing simulator that differs slightly from all other casual running games you may have seen. Whether your cube will win the race is determined by how good your drawing skills are! In short, you have a regular immobile cube with holes, and you must draw a pair of arms of the right shape and length to complete the level ahead.

Although the mechanics of this casual title are straightforward, do not hurry to write it off as too simple a game. While drawing two lines modeled after the AI’s sample drawing does not seem like too much of a brainer, getting it right on your first try is nearly impossible. There are all kinds of obstacles for your cube-like friend to avoid – ladders, walls, blocks, water, tight passages, and more – as it is trying to get to the top, and these get progressively more difficult to overcome.

Your character will also collect coins along the way that will let you unlock new effects, but these rewards become available post-race and only to those who have won the competition. If you lose the race, all your earnings get canceled. Watching an ad video after winning the race will multiply your coins by five times and give your cube character a sensible boost in speed.

How do you become more successful at playing draw climber?

Granted, you will find your winning strategy as soon as you spend an hour or two playing this fun game, but here are a few tips to give you a little heads-up and help avoid the most common mistakes novice players make. Since all Draw Climber’s levels are non-replayable, you cannot rerun the ones you have already completed and apply a different strategy to earn more coins this time. That is why it is paramount to do your best to get the most out of every experience.

Draw Climber’s best tips and tactics:

  • Do not try to follow the AI’s original drawing as closely as possible – a long, straight, horizontal line might often give you a better chance of winning.
  • Do not hesitate to redraw your cube’s arms in the game process to make those better fit to overcome the obstacle ahead. Changing the length of your character’s arms is also something you should do regularly and dynamically to increase your coin earnings.
  • Act fast and with utmost precision if you need to change the length/shape of your cube’s arms during the passage of the levels to overcome an obstacle more seamlessly.
  • Be creative and careful when prepping your cube character for the bonus level. Whereas there are no opponents to race here, there are still platforms and obstacles to navigate, and your precision and accuracy will be crucial in determining how much you win.

So, Is  Worth A Shot?

Yes, absolutely. I think it is the funniest casual race game you will ever play and one of the best Voodoo titles so far. While it does not have much to offer in the way of graphics or features, Draw Climber certainly has the potential to appeal to a broader audience of players. To win, you will need a good deal of strategy, quick thinking skills, and the ability to adjust, all of which will take time to develop, but the outcome will be worth it. The game is free and available for Android and iOS devices, so act quickly to download it right now to get the crazy fun started!
