In a recent interview, Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer sketched his vision for the Xbox's future. He discussed the company's distinct objectives for their Game Pass and hardware, while simultaneously thinking about sharing some key exclusive titles with PlayStation gamers.
Spencer confirmed his ambitions to test the waters by bringing four exclusives from Xbox to other platforms. He explained the massive undertaking it would involve and that he wants to ensure an audience definitely exists before they proceed. He warned against the assumption that this could open the proverbial floodgates for all titles to cross platforms.
During the conversation, the potential of diversifying the reach of two specific games, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, and Starfield, came up. Spencer mentioned the importance of never completely dismissing the idea of a game being introduced to different platforms. For now, however, attention is being given to the initial four games identified for potential platform diversity.
Spencer also clarified that they didn't intend to convert all Xbox users into Game Pass subscribers. Instead, this service only makes up around 10-15% of content and service revenue, and they are pleased with how it currently works for them.
Exploring the future in hardware planning, he confirmed the company's excitement about creating innovative and unique saleable hardware. Recent promises by Sarah Bond, the Xbox president, for major hardware developments coming later this year further accentuated this point.
