Renowned video game designer Hideo Kojima, founder of Kojima Productions, has shared some insight into his foray back into the espionage game genre. His new game, currently under the working title 'Physint,' is being developed in response to insistent fan demands. The brand-new IP is being produced in collaboration with Sony, with production set to begin post-release of 'Death Stranding 2: On the Beach', slated for 2025 release.
In a recent 'HideoTube' presentation, Kojima offered more context regarding his decision for the new title. He aims to blur the lines between cinema and video gaming in the upcoming project. According to him, the game's blend of high-quality graphics and engaging gameplay will make it appear like a movie to an outsider looking in. However, he made a humble admission about the limits of this ambitious endeavor.
Since going independent, Kojima stated that his focus has been on fresh concepts despite fans consistently urging him to revisit the espionage genre. After falling sick in 2020 and spending a significant amount of time in isolation due to the pandemic, Kojima noted a change in perspective. He acknowledged the fans' requests and decided to shift his priorities.
Despite receiving numerous movie-making offers from Hollywood, which he turned down to focus on his company, Kojima remains immersed in the gaming world. He shared an anecdote about his discussion with Guillermo del Toro where the film director encouraged him to continue making games that already feel like movies. The director's encouragement confirmed Kojima's decision to continue in the gaming industry despite it not being very different from movies.
While 'Physint' might take a while before it's released, the announcement of an upcoming horror project, 'OD', and 'Death Stranding 2' make it an exhilarating period for Kojima's followers.
