The leading light from Fallout describes her character, Lucy, as an extraordinarily eccentric blend: a person embodying the quirks of Leslie Knope with the wholesomeness of Ned Flanders, alongside a dangerous capability.
Those who have delved into the Fallout series on television might notice that Ella Purnell's portrayal of Vault Dweller Lucy carries layers more intricate than her initially cheerful frontlets.
It is this duality of character – which unfolds as the series on Prime Video progresses – that captivated Purnell about the role.
"The turning point for me was learning that Lucy could both dazzle you in a toothpaste advert and possess a lethal capability, blending the essences of Leslie Knope and Ned Flanders. That clinched it for me. I was completely sold," shared Purnell, who is also known for providing the voice for Jinx in Arcane, in conversation with GamesRadar+ regarding the pitch for Fallout.
Purnell further comments on Lucy's adventures in the barren wilderness, in pursuit of her father, the Overseer named Hank (portrayed by Kyle MacLachlan): "For Lucy, it’s like a spark has been lit. This journey brings out her resilience – it’s always been part of her, just waiting to be unleashed. Whether this transformation is too much, or whether she adapts to find solutions, remains to be seen. You’ll just have to watch the series to uncover it!"
